Supported by the BAA Commission for Dark Skies (CfDS), this new network has grown from their efforts, emphasizing community engagement. Led by Val Russell of the Newbury Astronomical Society, we aim to build on the CfDS legacy by embracing its established campaign principles that have evolved over decades to promote dark sky quality lighting installations. Our focus is on reducing light pollution where people live through amateur and authentic campaigning. Participation is free, with expenses covered, and we are funded by donations without resorting to begging letters. We prioritize friendly persuasion over preaching, ensuring all dark skies regions are treated equally without commercial ties or endorsements. Maintaining strong ties with other campaign organizations is essential, and we never ask for all light to be switched off, especially when safety is compromised. We also avoid involvement in planning or neighborhood disputes unless astronomy societies or dark skies places are under threat. The need to combat unwanted light at night has never been greater, as light pollution spreads almost everywhere, causing significant harm to nature, human wellbeing, and access to beautiful skies. Now, with the looming threat from massed low-orbit satellites, we urge you to consider joining the CfDS Network to defend against these serious light pollution threats.
