For life's sake! TURN OFF THAT LIGHT
Our community is losing something precious - the stars. Many nights, they are no longer visible above our towns and villages.
“Why the fight for Dark Skies?
- Sky glow, partly caused by light pollution, ruins our ability to enjoy the wonders of the night skies. Needlessly restricting people’s access to the stars is an affront against our human rights and cultural heritage.
- Extreme Satellite proliferation is threatening the global populace with a number of actual and potential harms.
- Nature has evolved for millennia with natural darkness. It does not thrive under artificial light.
- Excessive light at night also threatens human wellbeing.
- Light pollution, caused by poorly controlled and inefficient artificial lighting, is a shameful waste of money and energy.”
The Campaign for Dark Skies Network was set up by members of the BAA Commission for Dark Skies and the Newbury Astronomical Society. They promote the core values of the Commission, which was founded in 1989. Membership of the Network is free and open to all.”
