The Campaign for Dark Skies Network (CfDS Network) represents a fresh approach to the UK’s anti-light pollution movement. It’s a membership driven networking organisation utilising social media, online meetings, and democratic campaign decisions informed by opinion polls. The aim is to support people willing to participate in activities for improving the night sky, mainly through local action.
Volunteers can:
- Engage in activities suited to their circumstances, even if just a few hours a year.
- Connect with other campaigners via the WhatsApp Community social media app.
- Contribute to a new national sky quality monitoring project using historic and current data.
- Have their views on light pollution heard by government simply by joining the network.
- Use campaign materials and methods created for and by the Network members.
- Make a difference by providing a mechanism for local people to influence local policies, attitudes, and behaviours.
