The Campaign for Dark Skies (CfDS) was established in 1989 by Bob Mizon, a key figure and leader, as part of an anti-light pollution initiative under the British Astronomical Association. The mission of CfDS focused on promoting light pollution awareness, advising on effective lighting policies, and assisting local authorities and communities in their efforts for dark sky preservation.
After the passing of Bob Mizon in April 2023, multiple initiatives were launched to revive the campaign. Ultimately, a dedicated group of former committee members, along with new volunteers, united with a renewed commitment to uphold his legacy. This collaborative effort resulted in the rebirth and relaunch of the CfDS Network, ensuring that the vision and values Bob Mizon instilled in the campaign are carried forward into the future.
