The Campaign for Dark Skies (CfDS) was founded in 1989 by Bob Mizon, a founding member and leader, as an anti-light pollution initiative under the British Astronomical Association. The work of CfDS focused on raising public awareness, advising on lighting policy, and supporting local authorities and communities in their efforts to reduce skyglow.
Following the passing of Bob Mizon in April 2023, several attempts were made to revive the campaign. Ultimately, a group comprising former committee members alongside new volunteers came together with renewed determination to continue his legacy. This collective effort led to the rebirth and relaunch of the CfDS Network, ensuring that the vision and values Bob Mizon brought to the campaign continue into the future.
